Tax fraud is one of the most pressing issues of our time. Undeclared offshore accounts cause an estimated worldwide loss of tax income of yearly over 250 billion euros.
The investigative documentary-thriller „Falciani’s Tax Bomb“ covers the events around the enigmatic bank whistle-blower Hervé Falciani. The highly sensible client data he stole from HSBC lead to the biggest banking scandal of history, which is why many consider him to be the Edward Snowden of the banking sector. The HSBC leak hit the international finance sector like a bomb and uncovered massive tax fraud strategies exceeding billions of Euros – as analyzed by Swiss Leaks, an initiative of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). Hervé Falciani’s actions fuelled the debate between financial experts and politicians concerning the legitimization of tax havens. The Swiss authorities still have an arrest warrant on him.
