“Mali Blues” and “The Light of the Enlightened” will have their German premiere @Filmfest München, the second biggest German film festival! Filmfest München will celebrate their 34th edition from June 23rd to July 2nd.
Following Fatoumata Diawara, shooting star of the global pop scene, MALI BLUES is a musical journey, discovering the country’s rich musical culture and it’s threat by radical Islamists. On our way we meet other committed musicians, like Bassekou Kouyaté, Master Soumy and Ahmed Ag Kaedi.
THE LAND OF THE ENLIGHTENED tells the story of a group of Kuchi children in Afghanistan who dig out old Soviet mines and sell the explosives to child workers in a lapis lazuli mine. The film is a hybrid feature documentary by Pieter-Jan De Pue, a first-time director with a huge passion for the Afghan people and for the extraordinary beauty of their war-tormented country. It was filmed over a period of seven years in different regions throughout the country on amazing 16mm footage. The world premiere was at the Sundance Film Festival and it was awarded with the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Best Cinematography!
